PHYSICAL on STAGE is an introduction to the use of Physical Theatre Techniques focused on performers —dancers and choreographers— who aspire to transgress the definition of the conventional performance and get into the field of experimentation.

It aims to establish the basis for a physical language training understood as the main driving force for the dramaturgy of a hybrid staging.

It intends to make the performer aware of his role in the creative process of an inclusive performance. To do this, we offer a guide that can help the performer to explore and develop his initiative and creativity and try to motivate him to deepen into his knowledge & experience.

A training based on exercises that generates creative answers from the dancers to concrete scenic issues and explore their skills and limits.

A work that prompts and fosters the needs from the artists and its own world possibilities as well as explores the borders between dance and theatre.

Intend to give extra tools to dancers in order they achieve their own way of understanding how to became a more complete performer.

Complementary MASTERCLASSES

We include SIX masterclasses [aerial dance, contemporay clow, afro dance & contemporar dance research] which will support and enrich the main guide lines of the workshop.

BRAINSTORMING CAFE [on Dramaturgy]

Every evening there will be a talk-discussion in a warm cafe summerizing the experiences of the day & introducing a concret topic related to a non-traditional dramaturgy.

PRACTICE RESEARCH Composition

We will ask all participants to prepare an exercise improvisation to be developed during the workshop.

A body’s visceral research in its different dimensions. It started from an insatiable curiosity about life and nature, which include this attraction for movement, in both poles, of great intensity and also smoothness and subtlety.
Embracing music and movement as my own medicine, I experienced dance, deepening in West Coast African dance, among many others, circus, yoga, performance, somatic and other methodologies, that also made me grow me. The conclusion is always the same, the essential is the connection at the present moment.
In this masterclasses we will approach aerial rope and the fabric in the form of a “drop” with some exercises to get to know it and we will give wings to experimentation from sensations and perceptions, through internal and external stimulation.

Miriam Strasser
Miriam Strasser
Miriam Strasser, born in Vienna, Austria where she studied Biology and did her Bachelor of science in 2014.
After her degree she moved to Spain where she did her artistic formation in clowning, physical theater and Butoh dance between 2014 and 2018.
Since 2018 she is back in Vienna, working as a freelance performing artist in various projects and researching at the intersection of different performing arts with a special interest in Butoh-Performances as they carry the acceptance of all our shadows, dark times, desires and emotions which we taboo in our society, for which we are mostly ashamed. To her a Butoh approach towards performance means letting go of the controlling mind for the subconsciousness to being express through the “dream-body” dancing.
“Butoh-Clown” encounters all aspects and abysses of human BEING in a playful desire to explore and thus opens up a contact surface between consciousness and subconsciousness, which allows to exlore the “cellar-rooms” of our and investigate the darkness there with pure, joyful love.
