This project has been possible thanks to the earnings obtained mainly through the crowdfunding campaign that we promoted last summer on the ulule.com platform and other small contributions that have also come out of that campaign and, until the closure of the project, we hope they continue flowing. The amount collected at present day is 2650 euros. That allow us to carry out the work. However, we continue trying to increase this income, especially to improve some technical issues of filming and post-production.
To this day we are in the middle of the production of the video, that we combine with the rehearsals.
In this publication you will find all the detailed information related to the project. Step by step, we will complete the missing sections, updating them weekly from December 17th until the day of the presentation.

About the Project
NEVER BORN is a solo of Contemporary Dance and Physical Theatre, created by Carlos Rodero with the Hungarian dancer and choreographer Podmaniczky Dorottya. The piece, a new initiative of MISERO PROSPERO Project Company, is a work in progress and we need to finish it and record a professional video for its broadcasting and promotion. It is the seed of a bigger project, CIRCULAR RUINS, inspired by the story of the same title written by the Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges.
NEVER BORN tries to make a research within the limits between Contemporary Dance and Physical Theatre, trying to provide a new vision about these languages. We also look for the keys of what could be the basic guidelines for the dramaturgy and staging of the CIRCULAR RUINS. CIRCULAR RUINS is scheduled to premiere during the next theatrical season 2019-2020 in Budapest, Berlin, Paris and Madrid. At this moment we are immersed in the pre-production of the show, the theoretical contents of the approach, the visual and scenic adaptation of the Borges’ story and its possible translations to the movement and the scene, the design of the scenic space and the costumes, the choice of music, the preparation of the budget, the search for sponsors and financial aid [fundraising], and many other practical issues. Immediately after we will face the task of selecting the artistic and technical team, which will be part of the production.
NEVER BORN, in a video-dance format, will be our calling card. We will use this video to introduce our project in many areas and with it, we will try to attract the attention of investors and artistic collaborators, as well as the venues to which we apply for the premiere of the show. That is why this video is important for us and as we are in a first stage gathering the necessary funds.
Besides this, the video already edited will apply to all the International Video-dance Festivals, as well as contests and competitions where we could obtain additional financial help as well and let us know to professionals and distributors of the professional world.
We have already finished a period of rehearsals that allowed us to make the first outline of the solo. The next step is a second period of rehearsals, now ongoing, that give us the chance to finish it in accordance with the initial approach and with a professional final touch that reaches the highest possible artistic and technical level. Besides the choreography. this includes to the care of all plastic and visual elements.
After this second period of rehearsals we will proceed to the video shooting of the solo, as well as in an inside studio, in other two alternative spaces: a large abandoned factory in the outskirts of the city of Budapest and a public library. The rehearsals are on-going now, the shooting will be during January 18th, 19th and 20th and the presentation on February 27th. The video edition will take place during the weeks, in between the end of shooting and the presentation.
We strongly believe that there is more and more an audience for this type of shows, which, contrary to what is sometimes thought, are not a few connoisseurs, but there are many spectators, lovers of dance and theatre, who would like to be able to enjoy new pieces, beyond those that are more traditional or easy to see. We invite you to participate in our project and make it possible, with the hope that afterwards you will be able to be part of the audience of a unique and personal piece, which normally is not so simple to find in our theatres, with the satisfaction that you have contributed to make it achievable with your contribution
About additional funding
Our budget is very tight and we are taking as much advantage as possible of what we have. Even so, at present day, although with the funds raised we can carry out the project, we continue gathering donations and contributions to cover additional aspects that could greatly improve the result. These aspects are basically:
- Lighting of the Set [renting equipment]
- Making ans special trapeze for aerial sequences.
- Special treatment of some studio sequences in post-production.
- Salary for some help in post-production.
- Unexpected expenses in transport and management.

Luca Broglia, lighting, camera and filmmaking
Luca Broglia was born in 1988 in Desenzano del Garda, a small town located in the north Italian countryside, where he grew up climbing trees and helping his family in the activity of beekeeping. In 2008 he moved to Padua to study cinema, attending the DAMS Institute. After his graduation he moved to Milan, where he specialised in photography at the prestigious Italian Institute of Photography. During these years he produced several personal projects, creating images always influenced by music, cinema, painting and literature, taking part into different exhibitions and being published on many important magazines. In 2016 destiny leaded him to Hungary as a participant of an European project of volunteering in an NGO association, in which his main role was as speaker in a local radio. After this project ended, He moved to Budapest where he currently lives and works as a DOP, video editor and director for a multimedia production company. He plays and writes music and he loves screaming in his post-hardcore band, pretending to be a singer.

The music
Based on Japanese traditional music and some especial sound effects, our collaborator Reiko Kamiku is developing a series of micro sound pieces that serve as the basis for the work of the choreographer during the rehearsals and which we will develop and improve during the post-production work.
[Soon we will share some examples.]
Rehearsals
We normally meet twice a week in intensive rehearsals [4-6 hours] in the studios of Inspiral Circus Space. In the rehearsals we put in common the basic proposals of the script and Dóra develops short choreographic sequences, that little by little, we are fine-tuning.
